The first game for the university was played on October 11, 1890, when the opposing team for the Allegheny Athletic Association, Shadyside Academy, failed to appear for its game. The WUP team was brought in as a replacement, suffering a defeat of 38-0.

 

WUP closed its inaugural three-game season with the school’s first victory over Geneva College while its next season paved a path to a 2–5 record.

 

After falling under the leadership of head coaches Hart and DePasqua (1966-1972), the university chancellor Wesley Posvar hired head coach Johnny Majors to resurrect the Pittsburgh Panthers program. His impact was immediate.

 

Under his leadership, the Pitts were invited to play their first bowl bid since 1956 against Arizona State in the 1973 Fiesta Bowl. Though they lost 28–7, the stage was set for the 1976 team to run for the national championship.

 

The 1976 season started with the Panthers ranking ninth in an AP preseason poll. Due to their success, the Panthers attended the 1977 Sugar Bowl to face the fourth-ranked Bulldogs. Pitt achieved a satisfying victory here and eventually went on to claim their ninth overall national championship – the first since 1937. 

 

Major Achievements

The Pittsburgh Panthers claim a total of nine national championships which is the 11th most in college football history. They’ve also participated in 28 bowl games under the guidance of renowned coaches Pop Warner, Jock Sutherland, and the iconic Johnny Majors.

Located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the multi-purpose Metlife Stadium is an impressive feat. Originally known as Meadowlands Stadium, the Metlife came about due to an agreement by two NFL teams – the New York Giants and the New York Jets – to construct the huge stadium.

The MetLife stadium first opened in April 2010 and is currently the largest NFL stadium in the US, with a maximum seated capacity of 82,500.

The stadium contains four luxury club spaces equalling around 10,000 seats in total and features dual training facilities for both teams. The venue also has amenities to host other events like concerts and wrestling tournaments.

FedEx Field
Located in Landover, Maryland, and home to the Washington Redskins, the FedEx Field Stadium is the second-largest NFL stadium around. It is 500 seats shy of being the biggest NFL stadium but still maintains an impressive 82,000-seat capacity.

Originally known as the Jack Kent Cooke Stadium in honor of the Redskins owner at the time, this stadium sits on a 200-acre site and opened in Fall 1997. It was fully operating just in time for the Redskins vs. Cardinals game (which the Redskins won.)

It used to hold 91,000 spectators but after attendance numbers declined, the Redskins removed thousands of seats.

During the regular season, this Arlington stadium has a current seating capacity of 80,000 but can expand to accommodate 100,000 seats for special events like the Super Bowl.

In addition to hosting NFL games, the venue is home to basketball games, concerts, college football championships, and professional wrestling tournaments. You can also find many pieces of interesting art pieces built directly into the architecture of the stadium’s interior.

AT&T’s scoreboard holds a Guinness World Record for being the World’s Largest High-Definition Video Display.

Arrowhead Stadium
This stadium in the NFL has been open since 1972 and primarily serves as Kansas City Chiefs’ home venue. It sits in Kansas City, Missouri, and has a current seating capacity of 76,416.

After renovations took place in 2010, this venue stands out as one of the more extremely eye-catching NFL stadiums in the US. This renovation included an expansion of the seats within the stadium, leading to a bigger seating capacity.

Unlike other sports stadiums on this list, the Arrowhead Stadium was not built for multi-purpose use and is just intended to host football games.

Mahomes and Brady Match-Up Headline Super Bowl LV

Super Bowl LV takes place on February 7 and sees defending champions Kansas City Chiefs take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Buccaneers’ Raymond James Stadium. It is a fascinating fixture if only because of the eagerly anticipated match-up between Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady.

The Chiefs are the pre-game favorites in the latest 2021 Super Bowl betting markets although there is not a lot in it. The Buccaneers have a home-field advantage and are the first Super Bowl team to play on home soil. It won’t count for too much, however, because of COVID-19 restrictions means there will be limited spectators.

Every football fan is excited to see Mahomes and Brady go to battle. Brady is the most decorated player in NFL history with six Super Bowl rings. The 43-year-old is trying to add a seventh ring which means stopping the chiefs from becoming the first repeat Super Bowl winner since Brady’s New England Patriots managed this in 2004. Ironically, Chiefs head coach Andy Reed was in charge of the Philadelphia Eagles when the Patriots won back-to-back Super Bowls in 2004.

Most-Decorated NFL Player of All-Time

Brady is coming to the end of a glittering career. He revealed plans to continue playing until he’s 45 in an interview in December 2020. Winning a seventh Super Bowl ring – no other quarterback has more than four – would be a fitting way to bow out of the NFL.

Mahomes’ career, on the other hand, is only getting started and the 25-year-old looks on course to become one of the NFL’s greatest-ever quarterbacks. Since his first appearance during the 2017 season, Mahomes has been sensational. He’s thrown for 14,152 years, a 66.03% completion rate, and 114 touchdowns. His overall rating currently stands at an impressive 108.7.

The Chiefs have only lost one game with Mahomes in the team since the middle of November 2019, a stretch of 26 games. It’s fair to say anything and everything positive the Chiefs do goes through the young superstar.

Tough Conference Games

Both the Chiefs and Buccaneers were involved in grueling Conference Championship games so will be delighted to have a week’s rest before taking center-stage at Super Bowl LV.

Brady led his Buccaneers to a 31-26 victory over Aaron Rodgers’ Green Bay Packers. He threw three touchdowns, but also three interceptions taking him to 12 of the latter for the season, an unwanted career high.

The Buccaneers have now won seven consecutive games with their offense scoring at least 30 points, a streak that began after the lost 24-27 to the Chiefs in Week 12. That was Brady’s 33rd playoff win, which is ridiculous when you consider Joe Montana only managed 16!

Mahomes returned to the field for the Conference Championship game against the Buffalo Bills and guided them to a 38-24 victory. Seeing Mahomes playing again was a great sight after he missed a chunk of the Divisional Round game with the Cleveland Browns after leaving the field with a concussion.

Everything points towards the Chiefs winning back-to-back Super Bowl rings. Their roster oozes quality. A Mahomes-led offense is enough to win a Super Bowl on its own but the Chiefs defense came together to stifle MVP candidate Josh Allen in the game against the Bills.

The Buccaneers’ best chance of winning is to try and slow down Mahomes, something no team has been able to do during the past three seasons. Another way would be to simply try outscoring the Chiefs because Brady, undoubtedly, has the ability to do exactly that. This would lead to an exciting, high-scoring game for fans and neutrals alike.

It’s only 12-months since the Chiefs were in this exact same spot and the experience gained from beating the San Francisco 49ers will stand them in good stead. I say Chiefs to win with Mahomes putting in yet another MVP performance. Sorry, Brady and Buccs fans.

Thomas was still labeled as WR2 in football fantasy despite his uncertain play on Sunday due to his ankle injury. But it did not stop the Saints from having him play against the Falcons this coming Week 13. 

 

He tweaked his ankle at their heavy-run approach on the Denver Broncos last Week 12. Like Kamara, the wide receiver was also reported as a limited participant on the Saint’s lineup during Wednesday’s practice. 

Saints’ Marcus Davenport 

Davenport suffered a concussion that led him unable to practice on Thursday. Playing as the defensive end on Week 13 is still unsure as he’s marked as a limited participant on the Saint’s lineup.

Saints’ Marquez Callaway 

Thomas will also miss Thursday’s practice due to his minor knee sprain. He obtained his knee injury during their last game against the Broncos when he stumbled off the field, which ruled him out after halftime. With the wide receiver’s condition, the Saints are short-handed on good players for their next game. 

Falcons’ Todd Gurley

Gurley suffered a knee injury that caused his Wednesday practice to be limited. Furthermore, he will miss his practice on Thursday as his day off. Unfortunately for fantasy team managers, the running back was also listed on the list of limited participants on the Falcon’s lineup. His injury issues had held him out on his practice, even becoming inactive at their game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Having him on their approaching match against the Saints will be determined on their Friday’s practice report.

Falcons’ Calvin Ridley

As reported during their Wednesday practice, Ridley was also on limited participation due to his mid-foot sprain injury. He was forced out during last Sunday’s game when his left ankle was twisted on reception. However, he managed to return to the game twice.

11/23/20 Betting Preview: Rams at Bucs: SMACKDOWN!

8:15 p.m. ET: Los Angeles Rams at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Bettors are in for a treat with this Monday Night Football showdown as it features two of the NFC’s top playoff contenders. The Rams (6-3 SU, 5-4) are coming off an impressive 23-16 win over the Seahawks, covering as 3-point home favorites. Meanwhile, the Bucs (7-3 SU, 5-5 ATS) rebounded from a 38-3 beatdown by the Saints in Week 9 with a resounding 46-23 win over the Panthers last week, easily covering as 6-point road favorites. The Rams are + 48 in point differential. The Bucs are + 70.

This line opened with Tampa Bay listed as a 3.5-point home favorite. The public is split and doesn’t know who to take. On the one hand, they love getting points with a good team like the Rams. But they are also wary of betting against Tom Brady laying a short spread. Despite this even betting, we’ve seen the Bucs move from -3.5 to -4. Some shops are even hanging -4.5. In a vacuum, a line shouldn’t move at all if the tickets are split. So we know this adjustment toward Tampa Bay was caused by respected pro money backing the Bucs. Jerome Boger is the lead ref tonight, which also favors Tampa. Home teams are 56% ATS when Boger is the head official.

Despite the line move against them, the Rams fit a pair of profitable systems this season. Short road dogs + 6 or less are 38-24 ATS (61%) this season and primetime dogs are 21-12 ATS (64%).

We’ve also seen some wiseguy money hit the under, dropping the total from 48.5 to 48. Primetime unders are 21-12 (64%) this season. The Rams are a big under team (7-2) while the Bucs have been profitable to the over (6-4).
